Bergen - Modalen fjord cruise

The tour starts at Zachariasbryggen, right beside Bergen’s famous Fish Market. We then head for beautiful Modalen, the second smallest municipality in Norway with a population of just 380, before returning to Bergen.

As we leave Bergen, we pass the Hanseatic wharf Bryggen, which is now inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, the old buildings in Skuteviken and Sandviken, and past Old Bergen Museum. This tour thus also provides an insight into Bergen’s stockfish history and its unique buildings. The tours are guided.

The old Viking landscape to Mostraumen is wild and beautiful. And it becomes even more wild and beautiful after we make our way through the famous Mostraumen tidal current, where majestic mountains rise steeply to heights of 1,200 metres on both sides of the Mofjord.

Vikings lived along the fjord, and the first Viking church was built in 1024. It was decided at the Mostratinget assembly that Hamre church was to be the main church for the whole of Nordhordland. It was probably the only church in Nordhordland during the early Christian period. The original stave church was demolished in around 1620 and the current church built in 1622, using parts of the old church.
